In 2007, as the housing market was crashing Justin and Jennifer Bajema were grabbing up single family homes. After getting a few under their belt, they began to look for a company to manage their investments. They quickly realized they were not impressed with the property management companies in Grand Rapids. Thus, Access Property Management Group was born. Home by home, they grew the company, hired employees and together the team developed a successful and professional property management company which today manages (give or take) 400 units..
Launched In May of 2008, Access has been leasing and managing properties now for 10 years in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Michigan. We're a team of 4 who eat, breath and sleep property management on a daily basis. We are focused on growth and getting the absolute best bang for your buck. We are a lean, mean, property management machine (ok, maybe not so mean). It's been a blast and together we've built a pretty killer property management system that we really proud of 🙂
'Here's a little info on each one of us. From Rockford, to Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo, we're real people who live in your communities.
I have been enjoying Grand Rapids and all it has to offer for nearly 20 years. During that time, I have been serving the community in the areas of real estate, property management, building, and maintenance.
In 1997 I started working part time at a Student Housing Complex In Allendale collecting rent, placing students and showing apartments. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves starting in 1997, I was called to active duty in January 2003. I returned from Djibouti, Africa in late 2003. I had no job and a new daughter, so I jumped back into real estate and property management. In 2004 I received both my Real Estate and Builders License. I then followed that up in 2011 by gaining my Real Estate Brokers License.
During the housing boom of 2005, I began flipping homes in my free time. This really helped me to understand the local housing market and find creative ways to maximize my returns. After a few years of flips and rehabs, I purchased my first two rental homes in 2007 on the Northwest side which I still own today.
While taking care of my own rental units I started to manage for friends and family along with word of mouth referrals. I soon grew to about 75 units and felt I was in a little over my head. In 2010 I joined Access Property Management Group and it opened my eyes to all the technology available to manage homes. We have been working together since then. We continue to grow and leverage technology to manage rental properties in the most efficient and commutative way possible.
I moved to Kalamazoo in 2002 while attending Western Michigan University and have been involved in real estate and property management since graduating in 2005.
I began my real estate investing journey in 2014 by purchasing my first single family rental property in Kalamazoo and I currently own 5 rental units. I served on the board of the Kalamazoo Area Rental Housing Association for 3 years in the roles of Secretary in 2015 and Treasurer in 2016-2017. This was a great experience that allowed me to make new relationships with local and new investors in the Kalamazoo market.
I really enjoy meeting new investors and talking to investors of all experience levels. It’s a win-win when I can listen and learn from their unique experiences and help them solve their problems when I can.
My entire professional adult life has been in real estate. My real estate career started with taking Real Estate Economics classes from Grand Valley State University. While attending college, I started interning with another property management company and obtained my real estate license. In 2007, before we were married, I was analyzing investment properties and walking through homes with Justin as dates. In 2008, as the market was crashing, Justin and I were buying up properties, starting a property management company, and planning a wedding.
Throughout the growing of our company, I have worked in every part of Access from showing units and scheduling maintenance to managing employees and building out systems and processes. Today my focus is on educating real estate investors and helping clients navigate the investment world. You won’t get a call from me, but you can read my blogs and watch the videos I edit and post.
I love the amount of personal development that being a business owner has allowed in my life. I read books, attend conferences and soak up any knowledge I can find. I am a mom, a runner, an investor, an adventure seeker and avid traveler.
Justin enlisted in the Marine Corps as an infantryman in May of 2001. He served two tours of combat in Iraq in 2003 and 2004. During his second tour of duty, he was severely wounded in an ambush when an IED detonated directly beneath his vehicle. He was awarded the Purple Heart decoration by Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush. Justin was medically retired from the United States Marine Corps for his injuries in 2005.
Justin’s love and passion for investment real estate led him to begin purchasing foreclosed homes in early 2007 and 2008. After purchasing several homes, the need for professional property management became necessary. In 2008, Justin and Jennifer started Access Property Management Group, LLC to manage both their portfolio and other investors real estate.
As Founder and President of Access Investment Group, LLC and Access Property Management Group, LLC, Justin has acquired a diverse business background with over 10 years of experience in the acquisition, management and oversight of investment real estate. He also holds the highly regarded Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation through the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM).
Justin is a passionate public speaker traveling throughout the country sharing his story on business leadership, overcoming adversity, success principles, and the transition from “boots to suits” for combat veterans in the marketplace. Justin is passionate about success and helping others and himself live incredibly full and fulfilling lives.
He is an avid hiker and mountaineer with a considerable amount of time invested enjoying the pristine Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon and Washington.
So yeah, we're a little geeky and take this whole "Property Management" thing pretty seriously! We love what we do and we're pretty damn good at it too. Own Properties? Life is too short to struggle with doing it yourself or a bad management company. See how it could be.
